The encoding parameters used for each set of tests are identified below. We also measured the subjective quality of the 3Mbps streams produced in each category with web service. ![]() Long story short, we include pricing information for all test encodes, but you’ll likely have to do a lot more work to identify the most economically effective instance types for your production transcodes.Īfter assessing performance, we measured quality via standard rate-distortion curves with BD-Rate analysis. In addition, you’ll get different measures of comparative performance based on machine type, and finding the optimal configuration for software and three-hardware based codecs could easily be the topic of a totally separate article. However, the platforms used for hardware-assisted encoding were almost always suboptimal for software-only encoding, which frustrated these efforts. In a perfect world, we could have tested all codecs on a single computer to arrive at a uniform cost-per-stream hour. For software encoders, we allowed frame rates to drop to 55 fps, while for hardware-based encoders, we allowed no dropped frames. That is, on each tested computer, we tested whether the codec could produce the entire ladder, and if so, how many simultaneous instances of the ladder it could produce. In both cases, we measured performance using the encoding ladder shown in Table 1 with 1080p 60 fps source clips. For HEVC, we evaluated Intel’s SVT (Scalable Video Technology)-HEVC, a software-based codec that purports to deliver hardware-like performance NGCodec’s FPGA-based HEVC encoder and x265 using the medium and veryfast presets. For perspective, we also included FFmpeg’s x264 codec using both the medium (default) and veryfast settings. For H.264, we compare the NVIDIA H.264 and Intel Quick Sync codecs, analyzing performance and output quality for live transcoding applications. This article analyzes several hardware-based transcoding solutions. In this schema, you send a single efficient stream to the cloud, transcode the stream to produce a complete encoding ladder, package as necessary, and deliver the streams to the origin server or CDN. Live transcoding on the web has quickly evolved into the optimal workflow for streaming live events. (But they did forget to remove the "H" button for the holomap). Because there is no longer an explicit action command they removed the mentioning of it from the text and dialogue. This is also the case with movable platforms. To rummage through bins, read posters, pull levers you simply press on them to walk to them and the action happens automatically. In my opinion they shouldn't have added this feature as it removes a lot of mystery. You can zoom out by pinching to see pretty much the whole scene. Double tapping will automatically exit discrete mode.Īn other big change is the ability to zoom, or more specifically, zoom out. In this move Twinsen will move silently, and throwing the ball is still in a high arc. I only used the swipe attack when I had to be fast.ĭiscrete mode needs to be activated manually using the two foot steps icon on the HUD. Swiping will probably work better on a tablet than on a phone. If you swipe a NPC Twinsen will try to throw it at the NPC, or you can swipe in a given direction and Twinsen will throw the ball in that direction. The other way to throw the ball is to swipe. In the original game you often had to try multiple times to hit your target. This can be really useful to precisely hit the object you want. The arc draw for the ball will also indicate how the ball will bounce of the environment. So jumping changes into throwing when you are outside of the jump distance. The first way, which I used the most, is by dragging Twinsen just like when you would jump, but then continue on dragging until the arc changes color. Once you get your magic ball you can use it in different ways. And just a hint, the soldiers and clones usually do not fancy a chat. This will become useful in cases where you accidentally attack a friendly character you wanted to talk to. To abort talking or attacking simply tap somewhere else for Twinsen to move to. To just talk to NPCs you tap once, this will give the NPC a green outline instead. Once you get the sword, Twinsen will always use the sword to attack rather than his fists. Twinsen will keep attacking the selected NPC until its dead. When an NPC is selected to be attacked it will get a red outline. Attacking can be done by double tapping a NPC. A blue arc is drawn where Twinsen will more or less land.Īggressive mode has been reduced to just attacking. ![]() To jump, you drag Twinsen from his current location to the direction you want to jump to. When you keep your finger on the screen after the tap or double tap Twinsen will keep moving to the location your finger is pointing. Because the control mechanism is not as precise as the keyboard Twinsen will no longer hurt himself when running into obstacles. To run, you double tap and Twinsen will start to run instead of walk. There is no path finding, so Twinsen will move in a straight line and stop when he cannot continue. To move Twinsen around you simply press a location on the screen and Twinsen will move towards this location. Behavior is no longer an explicit mode, except for the discrete mode. Because of this the behavioral menu is gone. DotEmu completely changed the control scheme to make it playable on a touch screen. On the gameplay field quite a few things have changed. ![]() So if you want to play the game in German or Spanish instead of English it is possible. All the different languages from the original game are included. But these lower quality assets should not stop your from having a great (re-)experience of the adventures of Twinsen. The MIDI tracks have been converted a wave format, and it sounds quite good, as if it was not based on MIDI to begin with. LBA used music in MIDI form and a few CD tracks. ![]() You will also notice pixelated edges, and the movies are a bit blurry. This means that the voices are of the same quality as they were in 1994, it is not as clear as you would expect from modern games. So it is the same story, same art, and more or less the same gameplay. The mobile version is a straight port of the original game with a bunch of adjustments for touch based input. This review will only discuss the differences between the original game, and the mobile version. Given the fact that this site is dedicated to LBA I will not go into reviewing the game design, we already know it is an excellent game. This review is based on the iOS version which I played on an iPhone 5. LBA is available for both Android ( Google Play, Amazon Appstore) and iOS. The people from DotEmu were kind enough to provide me with a review copy of the now available mobile version of Little Big Adventure. ![]() I just wish those gathering nodes were instanced. I’m almost positive that crafting will fall immediately to the wayside at endgame since instanced content will probably be the place to get the best gear, but it was also nice to have a reason to seek out gathering nodes as I trekked along. There was also some equipment enhancement features that provided some useful little boosts. I also had a reason to craft items in the game, since the vitally important healing potions could be crafted at certain crafting tables and equipment I could create at a smithing station was actually of some use. These were places of respite that let me heal up automatically, break down unwanted gear, and create food items or share them with others nearby. I also am a big fan of the Soul Pyre mechanic, which is very similar to the Bonfires of Souls games. The game also had a nice big open world with bare few loading screens, instead seeing an occasional large “pulse” as I moved from what I can only assume was a specific instance of a given area. For one, when you get new gear, a little pop-up window often shows up that indicates at-a-glance whether it’s an improvement for your character and allows you to hold a button to immediately equip it. Or maybe that was a problem with the short race I elected to roll with it’s hard to say.Īs routine as that all sounds, there were a couple of nice touches that I appreciated as I progressed through the levels. Now and again there would be a boss monster in the open world to fight, though the one giant beast I did fight mostly had me watching his huge foot since the camera didn’t really scale to his size. Overall, most of my time was spent in typical themepark MMO gameplay fashion as I followed a sparkly breadcrumb trail from location to location, spoke with NPCs, and did the allotted tasks. It’s not the most creative solution in terms of putting together a build, but it’s serviceable. Ability customization, then, comes mostly by way of having limited active skill buttons and a long list of skills that can be unlocked as leveling pushes on. It’s a more streamlined system than what Bless did, making it easier to understand but also a little bit boring, too. You level up, earning some latent stat boosts and points that can be spent to either unlock new skills at different levels or boost already unlocked skills. I also rather enjoyed how my tiny little critter could block most attacks with his small shield, though the Crusader felt less like a mitigation tank and more like someone who was a DPSer and occasionally decides to block when I remembered to press the right button.Ĭharacter progression, meanwhile, holds no major surprises. I just sort of made best guesses in that case my stabbing Solar Strike probably hits things in a line, my swiping sword strikes are probably cones. ![]() This mostly works when fighting bosses as locking on to a target, unleashing combo attacks or individual skills, and sliding out of danger was the watchword, though with more standard mobs things can feel a bit dicey since most of my attacks could affect multiple targets though the range or shape of the effect was never really explained. If I had to summarize combat feel in words, I would describe it as BDO-level bombast with Souls-ish animation lock, dodge mechanics, and potion chugging. ![]() It also was the first full taste of Unleashed’s combat, which is easily the biggest step up for this game versus the original. I also rather liked the tutorial, which saw my character fight through dream monsters of various difficulties all the way up to a laser-firing cyclops beast, which is very likely what was previewed at PAX. Someone in a temple got stabbed to death. I also found the game’s story to be just a bit more interesting than the original game, as my character saw his idyllic home island come under attack by some guy who can summon demons. I appreciate that doesn’t sound like glowing praise, so let me try to elaborate.įirst off, I had a good time in the character creator, faced with a variety of sliders and options as I crafted my Ippin Crusader, resulting in a character that looked like some Dark Crystal/Labyrinth-style Muppet in tanker’s gear. ![]() In short, this one is pretty decent, especially when compared to the original PC version of Bless Online that was shuttered. Even so, I feel as if I’ve had enough time in the game to get the general thrust of things, and I don’t think my impressions are too far removed from Eliot’s when he previewed the game at PAX East 2019. I’m not going to say I’ve had a great deal of time with the recent PC beta test of Bless Unleashed - that’s why this is called “first impressions” and not “final impressions,” and we don’t do fully final opinions on MMOs anyway. ![]() The items are not necessarily interconnected and may serve different purposes. She was also famous for being an icon for the nudist lifestyle. The 1956 photoshoot was shot by Russ Meyer. She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month in May 1955 and in February 1956. I know some would term such movies as campy or even corny but having grown up in the 50s & 60s I can tell you that it was a far nicer time than now. Description: Diane Webber, born Marguerite Empey, was an American model, actress and dancer. This movie is great fun and sits in honor next to many of our other 50s and 60s favorites such as The Creature From The Black Lagoon & its sequels. Webber became the quintessential mermaid with her starring role in the 1962 film Mermaids of Tiburon. The mermaids with actual fish like tails are very good swimmers though as it is difficult to do the dolphin kick even without the elaborate costumes created for them. Same as Original Version except the mermaid sequences were filmed with frontal nudity. Iconic mermaid model Diane Webber has died. As an example most of the mermaids don't have mermaid tails but sport seaweed bikini bottoms. I would agree that some special effect technologies could do some wonderous things with the subject matter. 'Mermaids of Tiburon' 1962, 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea' (Episode 3.19) Airing May 2nd 1961 and other Films. Of co urse if made today the story would be some convoluted exercise in the aforementioned sex & violence. Marguerite Empey (J August 19, 2008) was an American model, dancer and actress. I'm really sorry that a sequel couldn't be made. It was a very welcome relief to watch something that doesn't rely on computer special effects or endless violence to tell a story. The ominous shark is obviously homemade but no big deal. Lots of very beautifull mermaids who are working hard to stay underwater but they do keep their eyes open which is no small task in the ocean. There is no sex, not even in inuendo, very little violence (which is even "muted"). It almost sounds like a documentary from the 70s told in a fashion of Lloyd Bridges Sea Hunt or even stretching some to Capt. Opera ( 1999 ) Webber, Diane ( act ) : Ghost Diver Mermaids of Tiburon. That said, this may be the ONLY way youll ever see the fabulous, late Diane Webber in action. In the mid to late 1960s, she embraced nudism and became a vocal advocate for the lifestyle. What used to cost 1,500 Zen, equivalent currently (at roughly 400:1 Dilithium-to-Zen) 600,000 Dilithium, can eventually be yours as a single-character purchase for 150,000 Dilithium. If you’re a player who wants to play completely for free (even in-game currency won’t be used), let’s see what we can do for you.Īt Tier 4, there will be a Tier 4 Dilithium-purchasable Defiant with Quad Phaser Cannons. Having all that in mind, let’s look at how a player could go about recreating the experience of piloting the Defiant. According to Memory Alpha, ablative armor, “…rapidly dissipat the energy impacts from directed energy weapon fire.” Part of this is due to the ship’s Ablative Armor capabilities. * Ablative Armor: One of the hallmarks of the Defiant class is its durability in a fight. Since then, we’ve gotten 2 versions that have Pilot BOFF abilities, one of those having Pilot ship maneuvers. Versions of the Defiant were in the game before Pilot ships were a thing in STO in 2015. We saw the Defiant making maneuvers we’d hardly ever see on other ships, including barrel rolls and quick maneuvering in and around DS9 and, in the Mirror Universe, all around a large Klingon Battlecruiser. The Defiant was used as a mine layer in Call to Arms to mine the entrance to the Bajoran Wormhole. Same battle with the Lakota, but a few seconds later. Even if only used once, I’ll say the Defiant has a Phaser Beam Array (in STO terms). Note the shield effect around the Lakota and what’s hitting it: a Phaser beam. When the Defiant went up against the Lakota in Paradise Lost, you see a Beam weapon firing from the Defiant along with the Phaser cannons it normally uses. The Romulans partnered with the Federation to provide the Cloak for just the Defiant and only for use in the Gamma Quadrant (though Sisko used it in the Alpha Quadrant on an as-needed basis).Ī few things that came up but weren’t as obvious were: This was unprecedented aboard a Federation starship via legal means. This is the main feature of the ship, as we’d rarely before seen a Federation ship that fires separate bolts rather than a solid beam. When building the Defiant, a few things popped to mind as canon, or authentic to the ship’s on-screen abilities and designs: ![]() ![]() For Star Trek, this essentially translates to, “anything for which we have seen on camera or heard dialogue.” (Books and some games, by contrast, are “soft canon,” meaning they are authoritative as long as the shows and movies don’t contradict them.) No, I mean “canon,” defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “the authentic works of a writer“ ( ). Joe’s version of the ship is built to Benjamin Sisko’s specifications.ĭon’t you mean “cannon,” like Dual-Heavy Cannons and Turrets? After reviewing his Emergency Command Hologram program and testing him as any Command-level officer would be, Starfleet granted him a promotion to Captain. Loyal fans of Alice Greenfingers and new gardeners alike will adore this sequel. Uncle Berry may seem a little obnoxious, but he'll head out to vacation as soon as business begins to take off. Money can always be earned by picking apples or plums from the ground beneath the fruit trees.Īnalysis: With new plants and new rewards adding variety to an already wonderful farming experience, Alice Greenfingers 2 is a delight. If you'd rather just stick with dogs and cats for animals around the farm, that works too. With new features, like beehives, goat pastures, and a henhouse, you can eventually run the farm on livestock, if you choose. Instead, you can keep an eye on the market price (which varies day-to-day) and choose to sell your products at any time, just by clicking on the appropriate animal enclosure. You'll no longer have to wait for the phone to ring to sell your eggs, milk or wool. The selling functions in this version are greatly improved as well. So, as time progresses, your garden will easily grow from simple to spectacular. These include adding new items to the general store, increasing popularity at the market, and extending the size of the farm. The rewards in this sequel are greatly improved, with a new feature that allows you to unlock a new reward at the end of each day. Like before, new items become available as you progress through the game, and trophies are rewarded for certain milestones along the way. While you are free to dig your garden any way you like, the game begins with a limited variety of options. Like it's predecessor, Alice Greenfingers 2 is a pleasant, self-paced farming simulation game. Berry is so lazy that he'll never leave the porch to check on you, so once you've learned the basics, you dig, grow, and sell any way you like. Using the mouse, you'll direct Alice to pick weeds and apples, dig garden beds, plant seeds, walk the dog, or take produce to the market - whatever Berry has in mind. Since Berry refuses to leave his chair on the porch, she's going to need your help. When Alice arrives, he's eager to put her right to work. Uncle Berry is a little eccentric and rather lazy, and over the years, his small farm has grown into a tangle of dandelions and forgotten apples. The lovable pig-tailed farm girl is back, tending to her Uncle Berry's farm, with Alice Greenfingers 2. Some call it work, but if you've ever met Alice Greenfingers, you know it's more like play. There is nothing quite like a day on the farm: the smell of freshly tilled soil, tender plants sprouting, and honeybees buzzing about in search of nectar. |
